In this season of thanksgiving, I have learned to be thankful for the things that are “small,” or at least seem to be! It’s so easy to brush things off especially when we are in a habit of expecting things to happen. Waking up each morning is such as blessing, and that is something I take for granted every single day since I expect it to happen.
This photo reminds me to be thankful for the years of competitive dance I participated in. If I wasn’t a part of that, I would not have these amazing friends that I still talk to! Friendships are something I also take for granted — I know I love my friends, but I forget to tell them that sometimes! Friends are incredibly important, and I am so, so thankful for mine because they push me to be a better person.
This photo reminds me to be thankful for the “little” things. I have loved sunsets for as long as I can remember, and even they are something to be thankful for! Be thankful that you have eyes to see them and a heart full of God’s grace to love and appreciate His works of art! (that includes you by the way!) The mundane moments are the hardest to be thankful for. They are the ones we think about the least but rely on the most — waking up in the morning, travel safety, good health, etc.
This photo reminds me to be thankful for the life I am blessed to live. I am blessed to be able to go to college and spend nights with my friends!! Not everyone has that opportunity, and that has taken me some time to realize. I take my life for granted because of how routine it is. That’s why routines can be dangerous!! They make us forget to be thankful. As much as I love a routine, I am starting to learn to be thankful for the change in my life. It has lead to so many new experiences and new friendly faces!
A cliché, but also so important, thing to be thankful for is my family! Spending quality time with family is something that I can never thank God for enough because I truly am so blessed. They are supportive of everything I aspire to do in the future, and I am so thankful for how they continually push me to be the best version of myself. I can ALWAYS depend on my family to be there for me, and that is such a blessing that I also take for granted sometimes.
In this season, I challenge you to think about everything God has given you and blessed you with ! (Hint: you can’t think of everything because He has blessed us with more than we could ever deserve!) Being thankful in every moment is hard because it doesn’t always seem that there is a bright side to every situation. I can 100% promise you that God is with you in every season; you just have to be willing to look for Him!
I pray that you all have an amazing thanksgiving, and I urge you to pray a prayer of thankfulness to God for all of His many blessings!
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
I've still got joy in chaos
I've got peace that makes no sense
So I won't be going under
I'm not held by my own strength
'Cause I've built my life on Jesus
He's never let me down
